microsoft makes apple disappear

i got a big laugh out of this story this morning. microsoft’s new “virtual earth” map site (whose interface, by the way, is just dreadful in comparison to google maps), apparently is using a really old satellite photo of certain areas in cupertino, california. a REALLY old photo, since the area around 1 infinite loop, apple’s headquarters, is merely a warehouse in an empty field. the apple campus was built, i believe, around 1993. so i suppose that this is earth 2.0 as bill sees it… merely an upgrade to the planet, containing not so much as a single black turtleneck shirt or any next great things.

now before you go getting all huffy on me, i’m not saying i think that microsoft necessarily did this intentionally. i know that google maps also contains areas that use older satellite imagery. i just think that it is quite an interesting coincidence, seeing as how they are rivals in the industry.

Haha. I think it’s totally on purpose and it’s hilarious. No less ingenious than the moon cheese from Google.

Maybe Microsoft does have a sense of humor after all.
